How Much Does EV Charger Installation Cost in the Illawarra? (2026 Guide)
Thinking about installing a home EV charger in Wollongong or the South Coast? The single biggest question we get is simple: how much does it cost? Here’s a straight answer, plus exactly what drives the price up or down — so there are no surprises.
The quick answer
A standard home EV charger installation in the Illawarra typically runs as a single fixed price covering the charger supply, mounting, wiring, connection and compliance certification. The exact figure depends on your switchboard, the distance from board to charger, and whether you need single or three-phase — which is why we quote after a quick assessment rather than guessing. Every EK Electric EV charger quote is fixed-price with no surprise extras.
What affects the price
Five things move the number:
- Charger brand and model. A Tesla Wall Connector, Zappi, Wallbox or Ocular unit each sit at a different price point. If you already own the charger, we install it; if not, we supply and install.
- Cable run distance. A charger mounted right beside the switchboard is cheaper than one at the far end of the house or in a detached garage — more cable, more labour.
- Single vs three-phase. Most homes charge fine on single-phase (up to 7kW). If you want faster charging (up to 22kW) and have three-phase supply, the install is different.
- Switchboard condition. Older Illawarra homes sometimes need a switchboard upgrade or a spare circuit added to safely run a charger. We check this on assessment and include any required work in the fixed quote — never as a surprise later.
- Load management. If your supply is tight, we may fit a load-balancing device so the charger backs off when the house is drawing heavily. This protects your main supply and avoids nuisance tripping.
What’s included in an EK Electric install
- Supply and mounting of your chosen charger (Tesla, Zappi, Wallbox and all major brands)
- All cabling and connection from the switchboard
- Switchboard check, with any required upgrade quoted up front
- Wi-Fi and app connectivity configured on the day
- An AS/NZS compliance certificate on completion
- A single fixed price agreed before we start
Can I get a rebate?
EV charger and home-energy incentives change regularly in NSW. It’s worth checking the current NSW Government and your energy retailer’s offers at the time of install — we’ll flag anything relevant when we quote, but we’re electricians, not the rebate office, so always confirm eligibility directly.
Do I need a Level 2 electrician?
For the charger circuit itself, a licensed A-Grade electrician is what you need — that’s us. Some supply-side work (for example, upgrading the service from the street) is Level 2 accredited work; if your job needs it, we’ll tell you and arrange it. For the vast majority of home installs, it’s a standard licensed electrical job.
How long does it take?
Most home EV charger installs are done in a single visit — typically a few hours. We supply, install, connect, test, certify and configure the app before we leave, so you can plug in the same day.
